Oddiyanam is a cultural Indian jewellery worn by women, while attending several occasions.
Whether it is simple or fancy, it can look very elegant, as it can come in numerous different styles and shapes. It is used for weddings, special occasions, family gatherings.
Oddiyanam / Vadaanam is used in many traditional dances- such as Kathak, Barthanatiyam, Mohiniyattam, Odissi and Kuchipudi. Kempu stones are popular with Barthanatiyam and Kuchipudi dancers. White metal hip chains are prefered by Kathak dancers. Gold colour hip belts are used by Mohiniyattam dancers.
Some women wear it because it looks appealing, although its main purpose is to tighten the sari.
